Hager Sharp Senior Vice President David Hoff Elected To Education Writers Association Board of Directors

WASHINGTON—David Hoff, senior vice president, has been elected to the Education Writers Association Board of Directors; his first two-year term will begin May 16, 2018, at the opening of EWA’s 71st annual National Seminar in Los Angeles.

“In today’s digital world, where fake news spreads fast, journalists play a vital role in providing accurate and objective information for the public,” Hoff said. “I’m honored to join the leadership of EWA and help them to expand on their mission of improving the quality of education coverage to better inform the public.”

EWA’s Board of Directors is responsible for setting policy for the organization and ensuring that the organization’s work advances the state of the art of education journalism and promotes public understanding of education through the communications media.

“David’s skills on both sides of the PR/media equation have been a huge factor in our work, and, we are certain, will help EWA and its members,” said Debra Silimeo, executive vice president. “As former journalists, he and I value the need for timely, accurate information and integrity in working with the media, and value the work that EWA does in helping its members be better-equipped to find and interpret what they need to tell compelling stories.”

Previously, Hoff served as deputy assistant secretary for communications at the U.S. Department of Education, where he worked closely with the secretary and senior Department leaders to design communications strategies for many of the Department’s signature initiatives. Before joining the Department, Hoff was a nationally recognized leader in education journalism as a reporter and editor at Education Week, the leading news source in pre-K–12 education. He covered national and federal policy and spearheaded the newspaper’s use of social media to extend its reach.

Over the past three decades, Hager Sharp has advised many of the premier mission-driven education organizations in America, including leading nonprofits, foundations, and government agencies. The firm, founded in 1973, is an independent, employee-owned communications firm dedicated to helping people live healthier, safer, and smarter lives.
