Debra Silimeo Named To National Capital Public Relations Hall Of Fame


Hager Sharp Executive Vice President Debra Silimeo will be inducted into the PRSA National Capital Chapter’s (PRSA-NCC) Hall of Fame on September 16, 2015 at the National Press Club during the 47th annual Thoth Awards ceremony.

Silimeo leads the agency’s education practice and is widely recognized as an effective business leader and a champion for the community. At Hager Sharp, where she has worked since 2000, Silimeo has built strong client relationships and account teams that have led to the firm’s growth and success in its key areas of education, health, and community transformation.

Prior to joining Hager Sharp, Silimeo led communications at two federal agencies: the U.S. Department of Commerce during the U.S.-China Trade Agreement, and the Small Business Administration, where she led a rebranding of the agency. On Capitol Hill, she led policy communications for the Senate leadership and the United States Congress Joint Economic Committee. She began her career as a radio and TV journalist and was a Bagehot Fellow at Columbia University, the country’s leading fellowship for business and economics journalism.

Previous honors for Silimeo include the 2010 PR Woman of the Year by Washington Women in Public Relations and the Washington Business Journal‘s “Women Who Mean Business” award. Silimeo serves on the board of directors of the DC Chamber of Commerce and the National Press Club’s Speakers Committee. She also co-chairs the Girl Scouts of the National Capital area’s Women’s Advisory Board, and she is an active member of Leadership Greater Washington and Washington Women in Public Relations.
