Hager Sharp Wins Top Honors at the PRSA 2017 Thoth Awards

Receives Best of Show, Research, Crisis Communications, Public Service, and Website Awards

WASHINGTON – October 13, 2017 – Hager Sharp took home five awards, including “Best of Show,” at the 49th annual Public Relations Society of America National Capital Chapter (PRSA-NCC) Thoth Awards Gala and Ceremony at the National Press Club last night.

The HPV Vaccine Is Cancer Prevention campaign, developed on behalf of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), swept three categories earning “Best of Show,” “Outstanding Use of Research, Measurement and Evaluation,” and the top award in the category of “Public Service.” The campaign effectively changed the conversation around the HPV vaccine from transmission to preventing cancer, increasing the quality of the clinician recommendation, and leading to an increase in HPV vaccination rates among boys and girls.

“We are honored to win these awards on behalf of our clients and the communities they serve,” said Hager Sharp President and Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Wayman. “It’s a testament to our commitment to public service and campaigns that make a positive difference in people’s lives.”

Hager Sharp also won a programmatic award in the category of “Crisis Communications” for work on the Together Against Zika campaign on behalf of the CDC along with a component award for the interactive NEI for Kids webpage in the category of “Website” on behalf of the National Eye Institute.

The Thoth Awards recognize the most outstanding public relations programs and components developed and produced in the Greater Washington area and highlight the top accomplishments in PR tactics. The awards are named after Thoth (pronounced “tot”), an Egyptian god of wisdom who was a mediator and scribe and credited as the inventor of communications and writing. In the spirit of Thoth, PRSA-NCC honors area PR professionals in 34 categories.
