Elena Acuna


As a member of the education team at Hager Sharp, Elena serves in a variety of capacities for the U.S. Department of Education’s National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) program within the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).

Elena is the task lead for Hager Sharp’s support of NAEP’s assessment operations team. In this role, she works on a range of state-focused projects, such as program review for NAEP State Coordinators and presentations to promote understanding about NAEP. Elena also supports the development of outreach materials—including infographics, informational videos, and brochures—for various stakeholders. Additionally, Elena has experience in crisis communications and quality control editing.

Previously, Elena served as a Teach for America corps member and taught seventh- and eighth-grade Spanish at a District of Columbia Public Schools middle school. She also worked in fundraising and communications for the Teach for America DC Region team and an adult public charter school in Washington, DC. Elena is passionate about using data and strategic communications to inform policy changes that will allow all students to receive a quality education.

Elena earned a Bachelor of Science in communications and a Bachelor of Arts in art history from Boston University.

Elena is a proud New Jerseyan and Boston University Terrier who loves the beach as much as she loves dogs. She enjoys searching for the best tacos and hiking trails in the DMV.
