EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT

Crystal Brown is the Executive Vice President of the education, labor, and economy practice.  Brown brings more than 20 years of strategic communications experience to this role, having led communications teams across a variety of settings, including two nationally ranked universities and communications agencies where she directed successful marketing and PR initiatives for companies, foundations, and nonprofits. While her work has spanned the healthcare and technology industries, Crystal has made an indelible mark in the field of education where she provided communications counsel to K-12 and higher education organizations, companies that sell into those markets, and numerous C-suite executives.

Before joining Hager Sharp, Brown served as the vice president and chief communications officer for Howard University. In that role, she advanced the brand and reputation for the university, Howard University Hospital, and its 13 schools and colleges. She also previously served as chief communications officer for the University of Maryland and led the university’s strategic communications efforts and approach.

An Atlanta native, Brown is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where she received a BA in Rhetoric and Communications Skills. She serves on the executive committee of the Ridley Scholarship Fund at the University of Virginia, is a member of the advisory board for DreamBox Learning, and is the past board chair for the National Education Association Foundation. Brown is a member of Public Relations Society of America, Color Comm, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
